Creating a pipe network from a polyline or alignment

Issue

You want to know how to create a pipe network from a polyline or alignment.

Solution

The most requested functionality for 2007 was creating a pipe network from a polyline or alignment. To fulfill this request, the Create from Object command was added to the Pipes menu. This command prompts the user to select a polyline or alignment and a pipe network is created from the segments and PIs along that object.
  1. On the Pipes menu, click Create from Object.
  2. Select the Object.
  3. At the command prompt, choose the Flow Direction [OK/Reverse].
  4. In the Create Pipe Network from Object dialog box, enter the Network name and Network description.
  5. Complete your selection of the remaining options.
  6. Click OK.
The new pipe network is displayed in the drawing and the pipe network name is displayed in the Pipe Networks collection on the Prospector tab.
Note: You should be careful when converting an alignment to a pipe network. If the Erase Existing Entities option is selected, the alignment will be deleted and other references may be broken. This can lead to other issues if the alignment is part of a shortcut or project file and it is referenced in other drawing files.
